Minutes of Meeting Rotary club of Pune Sports city organised an evening with - Dr. Vishwas Sapatnekar on 8th August 2023 at Balkalyan School Aundh Pune. Dr. Sapatnekar is a well decorated medical and social warrior. He came to fame during 1992 wherein he helped the Indian government to recover greater than 2 Ton of RDX from Mumbai Sea. Dr. Sapatnekar did his schooling at Shri Shivaji Preparatory Military school and Master of Surgery from Seth GS Medical college – KEM College Mumbai. He has worked in UK for several years and has a hospital there till today. Dr Sapatnekar has learned scuba diving, parachuting, Jumping, paragliding, and ammunition skills during his several years with different organisations. It was great to learn that Dr. Sapatnekar has been a dedicated committed social worker and has been working for several years towards: - - Supporting Warkaris every year with medical help on charity basis. - Supporting inter border patients wherein no specific country has a command and there is a dire need of medical support. - Isolated hospitals in war zone like Sudan wherein he was posted through MSF – an international organisation which provides medical services through renowned international doctors on charity basis – It’s called Doctors without borders. - Medical facilities for Tribal people in remote areas - Addressing needs for Polio vaccinations in Thane and Mumbai area. - Installation and Pran Pratishtha of sant Dnyeshwar idol in 2006 at London - since than everyday people gather for Geeta recital and prayers. - Started a scuba diving club at Thane and has supported many social cause at sea in Mumbai including recovery of many important articles and drowned valuables. During 1992-93 there were major bomb attacks in Mumbai and that was a time when services and skills of scuba diving of Dr. Sapatnekar came handy for the Nation. It was identified that there are large sacks of RDX at Mumbai Sea which has the capacity to blow 7-8 big cities in India. It was important to take it out of the sea however there was a scare that anyone who goes nearby will die. Dr. Sapatnekar took the courage and risk to bring out those sacks along with his wife and a student. During next 24-36 hours more than 80 sacks of RDX was recovered in extremely difficult, muddy, life threatening and dangerous conditions only due to courage and commitment of Dr Sapatnekar demonstrating his selfless Nation first Philosophy! Rotary club of Sports city was privileged to get blessings, inspiration, and motivation by Dr. Sapatnekar and awarded him with Rotary Services Excellence Recognition Award for his exceptional medical and social services including commitment to nations safety.
