| Minutes of Meeting | Shubhangi Kulkarni is an Indian cricketer. She was a leg-spinner and a useful lower order batsman. She received India's highest sporting honor, the Arjuna Award in 1985. She was the secretary of the Women's Cricket Association of India (WCAI) when WCAI was merged into BCCI in 2006. She spoke about her journey in cricket, the challenges the sport women had to face, the personal challenges she faced as the secretary of the Women's Cricket Association of India especially with regards to poor sponsorships, how her woman Friday " Mandira Bedi" was a key aid in helping her get sponsorship. The challenges she faced to have WCAI merged with BCCI. She recounted the times when the Womens's team had reached the finals and about poor press coverage to the event, despite the landmark achieved. Today's golden era for budding Women cricketers and the opportunities to young ladies wanting to pursue the sport. Indian cricket has come a long way and it was a wonderful tete-a-tete with her. |
